Sharing a nugget here. If, for whatever reason, you need to verify an account (such as Uber, Lyft, etc) that will not accept a VOIP number, what do you do ? You can either buy a prepaid burner phone (inconvenient, and not inexpensive) for the task, or you could "borrow" a number if you're only going to need to receive a verification text on it.
One way to "borrow," or hijack a number is to purchase a Comcast login that has a subscription to Xfinity Voice. Once you login to the Comcast account, head to the Voice tab (will be visible if the subscriber has Xfinity Voice) and then you'll see a list of the text messages in the inbox, along with the phone number. Input that number into whatever you're trying to verify, and you'll text message will be displayed in the inbox.
Once you're done verifying, you can either delete the message so that the owner isn't aware, or you can just leave it since verification messages sometimes look like spam, thus not raising any suspicions.
I'm assuming you can do the same with ATT accounts with Voice subscriptions, but I have not tested it myself.
The shop that I personally use to purchase Comcast logins, and many different others, is paysell.bz (I'm not affiliated with the shop.)
Good luck.
