You can buy a check writing program at office depot/office max, bestbuy, sams club, etc. It will have a start up set of business size checks, personal size checks and the program to design the checks however you want. If all you are going to use them for is mobile uploads then you do not need anything else. If you are going to want to go out shopping with the personals and/or cash a business size/payroll check then you need to go on amazon and buy some MICR toner or ink depending on what type of printer you have. A bottle of MICR toner is $10-15, the ink is more like $40, that is if you are buying the kind where you will use ur own cartridges and refill them. If you want to not have to deal with the mess of this then it will cost more to buy the already filled replacement cartridges. Its alot easier to buy prefilled, but the cost is usually way more. After many times of trying, I would suggest MICR toner refill kit as the way to go if the expense of the prefilled is not within your range of expenses. It used to be sold in the stores with the paper and programs, but now its online only and amazon is the cheapest that I have come across. The paper that comes in most of the start up sets is very plain with not many security features, and that is something that turns up distaste in some of the clerks at check cashing places because of it being used so much by people who just went to the store bought the set and ran with it. You do not have to buy the set, but it is more convenient and the personal check colors in the set are fine. You can buy the ink/toner, personal check stock and business/payroll stock on amazon separately and choose whichever paper you think looks best and more like the actual paychecks used by businesses in your area. The more you can make your paper look like the real paper the better, the more uploads you will be able to get thru before one comes back and the account your using starts going into negative. The best way that I know to get good information that is legit and up to date besides the stuff people get out of mailboxes or dumpster diving is to find either somebody you know and offer them $$ for a pic of their paycheck (2 pay periods in a row is best but 1 will get you somewhere) or be hanging out where folks will be headed on thursdays or fridays with their check to cash and if it looks like would be down for some extra cash, talk to them. Sounds crazy but it works, especially if they get shit pay. Having 2 pay periods in a row is good because it lets you see the amount of check numbers they go thru from one pay period to the next so that when you make yours, you dont have a check number thats too low and already been cashed or over shot the numbers too much. Some people do not want to get their personal info thats on their real pay check tied up in whatever you plan to do with the info, and thats cool and understandable, but you need to have all the other info thats on it so a pic is best. That way you can still see the spacing at the bottom, the bank info on there and the fractional routing number. The spacing is key, it will make or break the whole deal. It has to be on point and the fractional is sometimes left off personal checks but rarely off of business. Its just a rearrangement of the routing # on bottom with a 2 digit code for the type of financial institution its written off of, credit union, co-op, etc. The bank info on the check is checked against the routing number, thats the most used way that places will use to do any verification for cashing a check. The services to verify are expensive but you can type a routing number into google and find out to who and where the numbers say in comparison to what somebody typed on it. People tend to get to changing these things up thinking they are going to pacify some store rules about only local banks or businesses, then they change whats written out cause they dont really know what goes on behind the counter and then when the clerk types it in and it doesnt match up then they start really looking at all thats infront of them. Only thing to change on a business check is the date, amount, check number and whatever name needs to be written out to. Mobile uploads are awesome cause nobody sees anybody and phones get thrown out. But if the funds are needed asap and you have the MICR available, take it to Walmart or whatever grocery store is available...check cashing places like ACE tend to want to take your picture and/or get thumb print. Always be prepared for the thumbprint, use nailpolish that has lil specs of glitter in it, helps cover up more of the whorls n such, super glue works also but its personal pref. Places like walmart or kroger havent been known to fingerprint or take pics, you just have to have legit info DL, DOB, & Social plus phone number ready to type into the keypad. With everybody wearing gloves and mask right now.....things like that arent so scary, if you think they may ask you to take off gloves or mask then maybe fake a lil sickness, cough on the glove of the hand you will use to do anything....they will be thinking so much about the paper you handed them being in the coughed hand that they will just try to get you gone, lol. Well crap, i lost my train of thought and not sure what else to say on it. Just trying to give some pointers to folks that may not know much on this, i dont know it all but i do know a bit of it and what has to be right and what can be changed or where you go that it can be changed or has to be right. If you are broke and cant afford the stuff to get started....if you can come across a real check of somebodys, if its bank, COOL...get an ID and go to Home Depot, buy a few things and get a 100 visa gift card, not prepaid debit, GIFT CARD cause that can be paid for with check and get an amazon gift card of $100....buy ur materials. You can go to the dollar general or family dollar after that and use a prepaid card (greendot, chime, maybe netspend) go to register and tell them you want to load $95 on your the prepaid account debit card thats best to not have registered to you, just cause that lil % chance it gets linked back although ive never seen or heard it happen, it will be 95 plus the loading fee of $3.95 or something like that...Its usually a $98.95 or 99.95 total....to pay for it use the $100 visa/mc/amex gift card that you bought at store with chk, swipe it like any other payment in card form and you now have 95 on a debit card that you can withdrawl or cash back at register or whatever you wish. If you cant get a real check or you found one and it was already written on and you couldnt get all the ink off it, if you can somehow get a pc of personal check paper and can design one up to print on it, go to the groc stores that are in same family as Brookshires and Super1Foods. They do not require you to have MICR, they will type it in if needed and if its not a check account that you believe uses that store then the name for the account owner doesnt even have to be the real stuff. If you go without MICR on it, in my opinion it is best to have a hard ID. that way its not all looking like somebody played around on computer n came there with all home made stuff, and since the info doesnt have to be real you can change it to whatever ID you have on hand to use to get you going. Anything over 350 on a check most places have to get manager to turn a key and to type it in they have to turn a key also. Your amount of gift cards can not exceed the amount your spending in other store items. some weekdays going thru there with a basket of $700 in groceries, hygiene and stuff kinda makes some workers question stuff....on weekends you tend to blend in with all the people that have this one day a week to shop and at the time of month that people generally get food stamps, they shop for upwards of 800 to 1000 in groceries and the workers just want to get you checked out n gone. play by ear, go with your gut, use common sense in all of it dont try to make things fit n work that just have no sense about it and 99% of the time the only person there at that moment that knows this aint you IS YOU....so dont let some questioning ass bitch manager get u thinking they are on to you cause these fucks know nothing besides their personal opinions and not wanting to do their dam job. Dont be crazy n shit but dont let them try to push u around cause you flinch and they will know then. People that go shopping to get food n other shit for their family, to feed hungry kids after working 60 hours a week at a dirty ass hard working job in conditions these folks skipn around working in clean store with white collar shirt n ironed slacks couldnt handle wont take some questioning ass lip off none these folks about a pc of paper that represents a relationship that this working family man/woman has with their bank, not with this store or some 3rd party telecheck or certegy that wont guarantee the "risk" factor for accepting your check. I know from experience what can be done, stepped to the side and called that number on the declined receipt pc that walmart gives you. I told them that same shit right there, work get paid gata family and my money is with a bank, i have a relationship with the bank, who the fk is this 3rd party shit trying to tell me i cant spend my shit at walmart or where ever...they say debit card, and i said yeah, bet you would say that...another way for yall to get info, steal info and control my finances but its my choice to not allow that and keep my relationship between me and my bank, idk who the hell yall think you are 3rd party warranty/guarantee my ass........they then approved my transaction for the check number and amount that was attempted just 5 mins before and out the door with $1000 almost in walmart stuff. walmart will sell it to you with a check for payment and you can immediately take it back for cash, but it has to be MICR. Theres alot to know as in the if this then that or if that then needs this type of knowledge. Anyways, hope this helped somebody. Its been almost 10 years since i began learning this....just always be aware of ur surroundings and dont frequent places to much in a row. if you have to then always cover ip and put a little rock or something in your shoe. the way you walk and your posture is what people will remember and even if you do not have tattoos, cover up. At least then they dont know for sure either way. you should do your best to wear n look opposite of ur natural person daily look. change the style of clothes, what team you wear on shirts, band/music shirts you wear etc....dont make it easy on em if it comes back and they try to find whodunnit.
