alot of sites can tell when you are using a vpn. better off using socks5 to help you and help the card not decline. like if the cc is from CA and yor IP is in PA it probably wont go through.
It makes it harder to trace your IP back to you. Also like swipernick said you sometimes need to appear to be coming from the general location of the card owner in order for the transaction to go through.
What is actually socks5/vpn and will I still be able to do online carding with out or is it mandatory to have
VPN is nothing for carding no good at all as all sites now can easly figure that you are using a VPN it mostly protect your PC to not be open but will not be useful at all for carding ..
For carding you should use VPS / RDP + SOCKS ( VIP72 perfbly ) + ccleaner
If you just start with it and dont have much $ to invest to buy fixer's etc..
