The management of one of the largest shopping centers in Europe, Kaufhaus des Westens, located in Berlin, blamed “Russian hackers” for the cyber attack.
“Kaufhaus des Westens has been struggling with major IT problems since the weekend. The reason is that cybercriminals from Russia launched an attack on the KaDeWe Group networks on Friday night,” Bild quotes the text of a letter from director Michael Petersheim.
According to him, the hack was prevented at an early stage, but the consequences are large-scale: cashless payments are impossible in the shopping center, and all IT systems were switched to emergency offline mode.
At the same time, Petersime did not specify whether the data leak of shopping center buyers occurred as a result of a cyber attack.
Previously, the websites of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia”, which opened at VDNKh on November 4, were subject to a massive hacker attack with a capacity of at least 0.5 Tb/s. It was carried out through a controlled botnet network located in Ukraine, as well as in the territories of the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Japan and other unfriendly countries.
