Very true. Hotels and attractions, however, are much less risky than flights. I personally would not book myself a flight using someone else's card.
If you're broke, and you have to book yourself a flight, you have to at least use a gift card bin or somehow buy a legit/trade for a legit Visa/MC/AmericanExpress gift card to do so.
