Keeping in mind this all based off of personal experience and there is no right answer. I'm in Australia so once again thcould well be a very different experience to you, but myself many other have a faaaar higher rate of success when booking through either an international(not based in the country of stay)travel agent, or a 3rd party payment plan such as humm
Also I personally don't like using gift cards because they can suddenly bounce before the card that purchases them even does!

I would do the gift card method. Its safer. Once I payed using cvv, long story short I had to jump out a 3rd story window.

Exactly why even risk using a cvv ona hotel where theres cameras they know exactly where you staying at makes no sense sorry thatsbjus askin for trouble . Owner can easily call hotel up and say bla bla it's just not worth it at all very very suspicious and they will call cops because why not u using a cvv
